Golden State Valkyries Expansion Draft

Today is the day. The WNBA Expansion Draft for the Golden State Valkyries. The Valkyries are the 13th team in the WNBA and will tip off their debut season on May 16 against the Los Angeles Sparks.

Now this evening the Valkyries will begin the process of assembling a roster for the 2025 season with the Expansion draft.

The Expansion Draft is a process that allows a new team to build its roster by selecting players from existing teams. The Valkyries will be able to select players from a designated pool from unprotected players from all 12 teams currently in the WNBA. The 12 current teams in the WNBA submitted roster lists of every player they have rights to including covering active, suspended, draft list/reserved, core, and retired. Each team has the ability to protect up to six players on the team's roster list. Those six players chosen are considered protected and cannot be "drafted" by the Valkyries.

The Golden State Valkyries will have the ability to select one player available from each of the 12 teams not protected.

The Expansion Draft for the Golden State Valkyries will be at 6:30PM on ESPN.
