Week 11 of the college football season provided more chaos in the race for the College Football Playoffs. Four more upsets took place including Georgia Tech handing No.4 Miami their first loss of their season. No.17 Iowa State upset by Kansas in Lawerence and the Cyclones have lost back-to-back games after starting 7-0. Speaking of losing back-to-back games, No.18 Pitt suffered their second loss to Virginia at home.
However, the main takeaway from Week 11 is the Southeastern Conference. The conference that is known to be the best conference in football is wide open. In its first year as a 16-team league, no one is unbeaten in conference play. Probably more surprising is that Georgia and Alabama aren't dominating the SEC this season.
The third ranked Georgia Bulldogs were finally beaten by somebody other than Alabama on Saturday afternoon, the Ole Miss Rebels. The Rebels held the Bulldogs to their lowest scoring game of the season at 10 points in the 28-10 win in Oxford and Georgia's second conference lost on the season. Georgia QB Carson Beck had another turnover prone game with one interception and fumble lost. That's nine interceptions in the last four game for Carson Beck and ten total turnovers including the lost fumble against Ole Miss.
For the Ole Miss Rebels, Saturday's win is arguably the biggest win in the Lane Kiffin era. Backup QB Austin Simmons could be looked at as an unsung hero for the Rebels. Trailing 7-0 early, starting QB Jaxson Dart suffered an ankle injury and Simmons on the Rebels' second offensive possession led a 10 play, 75-yard touchdown drive and tied the game at 7. Dart would return to the game but wasn't a major factor. That goes to Rebels kicker Caden Davis, who went five for five on field goals from 23 yards, 43 yards, 53 yards, 24 yards, and 32 yards. The Rebels win on Saturday puts them in serious contention for the College Football Playoffs.
The other massive SEC game from Saturday was in Baton Rouge as the 11th ranked Alabama Crimson Tide visited 15th ranked LSU Tigers in Death Valley under the lights. Well, simply put "The Tide Rolled." Alabama streamed roll the Tigers 42-13 Saturday night. Tide QB Jalen Milroe could not be stop. Milroe ran for 185 yards and four touchdowns on 12 carries. Milroe averaged 15.4 yards per carry against LSU which included a 72-yard TD run, his fourth of the game. This is the second consecutive game where the LSU Tigers could not handle a running QB. Two weeks ago, Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed ran for three touchdowns on nine carries as the Aggies beat the Tigers in Week 9. The thumping by the Crimson Tide gave the LSU Tigers their second conference lost on the season.
The Southeastern Conference found themselves wide open with just three weeks to go before the SEC Championship game in Atlanta on December 7. Currently, the Tennessee Volunteers sit atop the SEC at 5-1 in conference play with Texas A&M right behind them at 5-1 in SEC play as well. More chaos will commence in Week 12 as Texas visits Arkansas, LSU faces rival Florida in the Swamp and the Vols go over the hedges to face the Bulldogs.
