USA vs Japan: For the SheBelieves Cup

By Alex Al-Kazzaz

The USA vs Japan. A title is on the line. Deja Vu? Absolutely! We've seen the two national teams battle it out in TWO FIFA Women's World Cup finals and once in the Olympics where the gold was on the line. In 2011, Japan pulled off quite the miracle to upset the USA in the World Cup final. The following year, the US beat Japan in the 2012 Olympic final for the gold and three years later, they beat Japan in a rematch in the Women's World Cup final. There's history between the two, but the rivalry seems to have died out.

Japan dominated in this year's SheBelieves Cup, winning both games by large margins, scoring four goals in both games. The United States pulled through but has not been as dominant. There's a chance that Japan could pull off the win against the USA next Wednesday.

Although Japan has played better, the USA is favored. The USA has won the SheBelieves Cup five straight times. Japan has beaten the USA as underdogs before and would love to do it again. However, these are under different circumstances. In other words, this is NOT the World Cup or the Olympics. Nonetheless, there's a title on the line.

The final is on Wednesday in San Diego.
