The USWNT Falls To Canada

By Alex Al-Kazzaz

For the first time since 2001, Canada has defeated the United States Women's National Soccer Team. Coming into this game, the USWNT had a 20-game undefeated streak against Canada. This loss means that the USWNT will not be competing for the gold medal at this year's Olympic Games. The team's future looks to be very clouded.

It wasn't a good day at all for Team USA. Goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher was injured early on and had to leave the game. The US would continually threaten but just could not find the back of the net. After conceding a penalty in the 72nd minute, Canada would convert and take the lead. The USWNT would not be able to respond.

The United States is set to take on Australia for the bronze medal. The game takes place on Thursday. With the bronze medal still up for grabs, there's still a bit of pride left to play for. It's bad enough that they won't be competing for the gold. However, it would disastrous to go home with no medal at all.

There are many things wrong with the team. Lack of chemistry, team aging, lack of motivation, etc. It's clear that the USWNT is NOT the best in the world. It's the first time in history that the USWNT has lost two matches in a singles Olympics tournament.
