Last week, the Dallas Stars defeated the Colorado Avalanche to advance to the NHL Western Conference finals for the first time in four years. Also, the Dallas Mavericks beat the Oklahoma City Thunder to advance to their second NBA Western Conference Finals in three years. Sports fans in the Dallas/Fort Worth area are loving it. The Texas Rangers, of course, won the World Series last fall, and the Dallas Cowboys? Well, they're still breaking everyone's hearts!
The Dallas Stars reached the Stanley Cup finals four years ago, losing in six games to the Tampa Bay Lightning. They're determined to win their first title since 1999, as they have their best chance to do it this year. Game 6 ended in a brilliant fashion for Dallas, as they won in double overtime in Denver. Game 1 didn't go well for Dallas, as they blew a 3-0 lead, and lost 4-3 in overtime. They went on to win the next three games before Colorado kept the series alive. The Dallas Stars will take on the Edmonton Oilers in the NHL Western Conference finals. The team is looking great. The time for them to win it all is NOW.
As far as the Dallas Mavericks go, they deserve credit for dumping the first-seeded Thunder. They came into the series against OKC as the underdogs, and against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Mavs are the underdogs. Minnesota's elimination of the defending champions, the Denver Nuggets, was incredible. Overcoming a huge deficit in Game 7 shows that Minnesota means business.
The New York Knicks did not get it done against Indiana, which shocked many. The Pacers will have their work cut out against the Boston Celtics, who are favored to win it all this year. Boston was in the final in 2022, losing to the Golden State Warriors. The Celtics haven't had an NBA title triumph since 2008, and they're determined to bring it home this time. Dallas is determined to shock the world and bring home their second title, while Minnesota is looking to pull off a shocker to win their first title.
The Mavericks beat the first-seeded OKC Thunder in six games, so could they pull off another upset? Maybe so, but they're going to have to play their best basketball. If miraculously, Dallas makes the final, they'll need to play their hardest if they're to have a chance to win their first NBA title since 2011.
