New York Jets to move on from Aaron Rodgers

The first leg has been figured out for the New York Jets offseason. This time of year can have many unconfirmed reports. However, fans can get a good feel for what teams are doing long before anything becomes official. And for one of the most closely watched franchises, it appears that the direction is being dictated.

Adam Schefter reported on ESPN's NFL Countdown that the organization is looking to move on from Aaron Rodgers. Again, at this time nothing is official, but Schefter is hearing enough that indicates this is the direction the franchise is leaning him.

The news doesn't come as a surprise. The 41-year-old has spent two years in New York City. The first season famously ended due to a torn Achilles. Then this past season was marked with embarrassment. The team managed to win some games later, but it was far too little, too late.

Then later on, during Super Bowl Sunday coverage, Jay Glazer from Fox Sports reported that the organization would officially move on from the quarterback. Rogers had met with team officials in an effort to reconcile any differences. However, those involved have decided that the best move forward is without the longtime Green Bay Packers signal caller.

Either way, one aspect does look certain. Rogers wishes to continue playing. Unfortunately for him, it will be with a different team for the 2025-2026 season. The veteran feels like he still has something left to contribute, but his current team isn't buying it.

Moving on from the New York Jets

Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets will be going their separate ways. The long-time Packer is set to change locations again, but it's to be seen what the market will look like.

It will be interesting to see what the market looks like for the future Hall of Famer. A lot of teams need a QB. However, those teams tend to be in bad situations and are far from playoff contention. Despite how the past couple of seasons have unfolded for Rodgers, he'll likely want to at least have a chance of reaching the postseason.

A potential sleeper team to look for is the Pittsburgh Steelers. But this isn't likely. Mike Tomlin's side just went through a perpetual quarterback discussion throughout the year with Russell Wilson. At this point, both Wilson and Rogers are two quarterbacks with one foot in the retirement door.

Both the Steel City and New York Jets saw what happens if an older QB doesn't have the needed support around them during the later stages of their career. While it's possible that things would work out, it will take a unique situation and locker room.
