A trade that caught everyone in the basketball community by surprise to kick off the second month of the year. Late night/early morning on Sunday February 2, ESPN's Shams Charania broke massive three-team trade news involving the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers.
The news broke was the Mavericks trading star player Luka Doncic to the Lakers for star player Anthony Davis. The trade also includes Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris heading to Los Angeles with Doncic. The Mavs are also getting Max Christie, and a 2029 First-Round pick. The Utah Jazz was the third team in this massive trade getting Jalen Hood-Schifino, 2025 Second-Round pick originally of the Los Angeles Clippers, and 2025 Second-Round pick from the Mavericks.
There has been rumbling in Dallas that the Mavericks' organization were concern about conditioning issues. See ESPN's Tim MacMahon's tweet. For, the Lakers, there has been some rumors about the front office not like Davis speaking out about not wanting to play center anymore and wanted the Lakers to bring in a center so he can the power forward position, his natural position. Nevertheless, this massive trade has shaken up the NBA in an unexpected way.
It makes you wonderful, if there is more to this blockbuster trade on the Dallas Mavericks' side as out of the blue, their franchise player traded without any signs of disfunction out of Dallas. The NBA trade deadline is Thursday, February 6 at 3PM eastern time so what other trades can take place now that two superstars were traded for one another out the blue?
