ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Luka Dončić and the Dallas Mavericks have agreed to a contract extension. The extension is five years and worth over $200 million. Dončić is the youngest player in the history of the NBA to receive a contract of $200 million.
Dončić was entering the final year of his rookie contract. Since arriving in the NBA, Dončić has broken and set many records. He wasted no time in making an impact. The former star of Real Madrid is surely on his way to becoming one of the greatest players in NBA history. Dončić's list of accomplishments is already nearly endless.
Dončić is coming a brilliant run in the Olympics. He was able to lead his native Slovenia to its first appearance in the Olympics. Furthermore, he was able to lead them as far as the final four. Unfortunately, his quest ended with no medal. Regardless, Slovenia's magical run ended in a very respectable fashion.
The Dallas Mavericks recently parted ways with long-time coach Rick Carlisle and GM Donnie Nelson. Jason Kidd is now the new coach and Nico Harrison takes over as GM. Last week, Tim Hardaway Jr. signed a new deal, as well. Dončić and the Mavericks have a much-need fresh start. Now that Hardaway Jr. and Dončić are secured, the Mavericks hope that Kristaps Porziņģis can stay healthy and play effectively.
The ten-year anniversary of their championship victory was only just recently and since then, it's been a drought of disappointment and frustration. The Mavericks are more determined than ever to return to the title picture.
