Kansas City Chiefs Andy Reid hoping to overtake record

The Kansas City Chiefs have been led by Andy Reid for the longest time. He'll not only surpass Bill Belichick for most postseason games, but he's on track to grab the ultimate coaching goal. The number one objective for anyone is to win games. And he's done that at a high level even before his current 12-year stretch with KC. However, he's been at this for a while now and accumulated Ws well before entering Missouri.

Including playoffs, the AFC coach currently sits at 301 wins. Don Shula holds the record at 347. The league has since and looks to add more games. But even so. He would need a couple of deep postseason runs and double-digit regular seasons. That is highly attainable with Patrick Mahomes. However, it's important to look past the record. This Kansas City Chiefs team accumulated a lot of wins, but they came at slim margins. And there seems to be a lot of noise surrounding the retirement of someone like Travis Kelce.

That being said, even if the tight end steps away, it's easy to see the offensive duo continue to do well. But even with that, the road continues to get steeper, and the defense appears to be the strong suit throughout the year for this team. It seems to be a record that is within reach for the 66-year-old. But that would require everything going according to plan and staying on track without further hiccups. Certainly attainable, but far from a foregone conclusion.

Extended time with the Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are ready to take on the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl. But coach Andy Reid has been a staple throughout the years. Is he going to surpass Don Shula?

Either way, it's safe to say that coach Reid is on the sidelines here for a while. He has earned a long runway that would potentially see him coach past even Mahomes, potentially retiring. But that's easy to say right now. And as stated, he's far from being on the hot seat anytime soon. However, it's important to remember how short shelf lives are and how quickly the temperature in the room can change.

Look two or three years down the road. Also, at the same time, this is a fan base and front office that is used to winning. They could grow weary if the close games start to flip the other way. Furthermore, at this point, the standard is reaching the AFC Championship at a minimum. Unfortunately, people can too easily become victims of their own success. When a potential cold spell could be seen as 'only' reaching double-digit wins or winning the division, then the room for error and, more importantly, losing becomes something that a lot of teams will have little tolerance for.

46 wins appear attainable. But a lot will need to continue to go right. And should things start to flip, a lot of people are likely to look for greener pastures. His winning and surpassing the record with the Kansas City Chiefs would be incredible. But that's far from the most likely scenario.
