For the first time since 2016, FC Dallas has picked a win in Houston. FC Dallas has kicked off their 30th MLS season with a hard-fought come-from-behind win 2-1 victory over Houston Dynamo. Six players debuted for the club and FC Dallas is now 15-5-10 in season-opening games. After missing the playoffs last season, FC Dallas is determined to play and finish strong enough for better results this season.
Petar Musa and Anderson Julio both scored for FC Dallas. Musa equalized in the 55th minute. Musa later provided the assist when Anderson Julio scored to put FC Dallas ahead in the 76th minute. Musa is in his second season with FC Dallas. Last year, he scored 17 goals in 31 appearances. Musa has now scored three goals in three games against Houston. Julio arrived last December when he was acquired from Real Salt Lake. The 28-year-old Ecuadorian spent four years in Salt Lake City, scoring 25 goals in 111 appearances. Anderson has the potential to be successful in FC Dallas, and scoring in his first game with the club is a positive step.
Resiliency was key for FC Dallas. The team was well-organized and well-concentrated. Most importantly, the team's depth chart is loaded with respectable talent. Houston scored first early on but could not double their lead. Musa's equalizer came off a massive blunder by Houston. Musa was at the right place at the PERFECT time. Julio's goal was allowed thanks to a blunder by Houston's goalie. Houston made two crucial mistakes and FC Dallas took advantage of it. Houston came close to regaining the lead in the 72nd minute when Jack McGlynn's shot hit the crossbar. FC Dallas Head Coach Eric Quill spoke about his team's objective.
"Our mentality is shifting to where we believe we can play against anybody and we are here to win and we are not going to stop," he said in the post-game conference. "Every player who stepped on the field tonight brought the level up and fought hard over 90 minutes to get the win."
FC Dallas will not play their first home game until March 8th. The Chicago Fire will be visiting Toyota Stadium. Next week, FC Dallas visits Colorado.
