Dearica to Replace Cameron Brink on USA 3x3 Olympic Team for Paris

Darnell Salins, Writer

On Monday, it was announced that Los Angeles Sparks forward Dearica Hamby will join the USA 3x3 Women's Basketball Team for the 2024 Olympics. This move was made because fellow LA Spark and rookie, Cameron Brink suffered a torn ACL on June 18 against the Connecticut Sun in the early part of the opening quarter.

Brink was initially named to USA's 3x3 team with Rhyne Howard, Cierra Burdick, and Hailey Van Lith earlier in the month.

"It is an honor to announce Dearica Hamby's addition to the USA 3x3 women's national team and we look forward to getting to work as a squad very soon," USA Basketball 3x3 national team director Jay Demings said in a statement. "USA Basketball continues to keep Cameron Brink in our thoughts as she focuses on her recovery."

This is a good replace for Brink as Hamby is a teammate of Brink in Los Angeles. Secondly, replacing a big with another big was the only proper way to go because Howard and Van Lith are the guards on the team and having a present in the inside is needed.

Speaking of Howard, the Atlanta Dream and USA Basketball are monitoring the Dream's guard as she is battling an ankle injury suffered on June 19 against the Minnesota Lynx. The Dream announced on June 22 that Howard will be out indefinitely but is still in line to participate for Team USA in Paris.

Hamby does have 3x3 experience as she was a part of 2023 FIBA AmeriCup in which the United State took home the gold.

Hamby is currently one of the top players in the WNBA this season as she leads the Sparks in points (17.8), rebounds (10.5), assists (3.5) and steals (1.5).
