Cha-ching: CeeDee Lamb got paid!

By Alex Al-Kazzaz

It's over. The CeeDee Lamb holdout drama is finally over. And right after the preseason ends! Coincidence? Maybe. Maybe not! Next week, the Cowboys open the season on the road against the Cleveland Browns, so it seems the deal was completed at a reasonable time. But because Lamb was absent for all of training camp, that's a cause for concern, right? Perhaps.

Lamb's new deal is for four years and $136 million. $100 million is guaranteed and a $38 million signing bonus, a record-high for a wide receiver. In addition, this contract makes Lamb the second-highest player in NFL history who is NOT a quarterback. A few weeks ago, Jerry Jones said that signing Lamb to a new deal was of "no urgency" and Lamb quickly responded on social media. Could it be that the entire time, Jones and Lamb were playing the fan base and media? Was this all part of the plan? Maybe so...

Now that Lamb has received his payday, Micah Parsons is the next one who the front office needs to focus on. As far as Dak Prescott goes, well he's the least of their concern. Prescott got his payday a few years ago, and frankly, he's not deserving of another massive extension. Even Stephen A. Smith believes that. Honestly, 2024 may be Prescott's last with Dallas.

Recently, the Cowboys lost Daron Bland to an injury. But the bigger story now is the final 53-man roster. It's obvious who'll be the starting QB. Trey Lance will be the third-string, and many Cowboys fans are losing faith in him if they haven't already. Lance's preseason performance speaks for itself, especially the five interceptions in the preseason finale against the Chargers. Overall, it's the Cowboys! No miracles are expected with this team. Ezekiel Elliott may be slated as the starting running back, but he won't be able to carry the heavy load like in his early years.

The final roster will speak for itself. The TE depth is of high interest, along with who will be the second receiver behind Lamb. Trevon Diggs returning is huge, but defense is always a cause for concern with the Cowboys. With the 2024 NFL season about to begin, the Cowboys are set to start with difficult opponents coming quickly.
